S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) synthetase
This is the protein coding sequence of S-adenosyl methionine synthetase, which catalyses the formation of S-adenosyl methionine (AdoMet) from ATP and methionine.
(ATP + L-methionine + H(2)O <=> phosphate + diphosphate + S-adenosyl-L-methionine).
It is the product of the metK gene in E. coli.
This enzyme is commonly referred to as SAM Synthetase, AdoMet synthetase and methionine adenosyltransferase.
